What we can learn from our best bachelor and master teacher

Jim Portegies and Sandra Loerakker were elected our university's best bachelor and master teacher last week. They both were totally surprised to hear their names when the Best Teacher Awards were announced during last Friday's MomenTUm celebration. Jim Portegies, associate professor in Mathematics & Computer Science, was elected Best Bachelor Teacher. And Sandra Loerakker, associate professor in Biomedical Engineering, was the lucky winner in the Best Master Teacher category. Both teachers highly value the personal approach and putting themselves in students' shoes. Jim Portegies: 'I want students to love themselves'. Jim Portegies will not claim to be the best teacher of the year.
