Peter Boncz, endowed professor of computer science at VU Amsterdam and researcher at the CWI institute for mathematics and computer science, has been made a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery. The Fellowship is regarded as one of the highest honours in the field of computer science. Professor Boncz's research has transformed the way in which modern data systems are designed, including relational databases and systems such as Apache Spark. He has made significant contributions in the areas of data storage and compression, query processing and optimisation, and database benchmarking.
