Ferry Hagen. Photo: Kirsten van Santen - Dr Ferry Hagen (1979) has been appointed professor by special appointment of Fungal Functional Diversity at the Faculty of Science of the University of Amsterdam. The chair has been designated on behalf of the KNAW Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute. Hagen is combining the professorship with his position as group leader Medical Mycology at the Westerdijk Institute. The research of Ferry Hagen focuses on the characteristics of major pathogenic fungi. Pathogenic fungi are disease causative agents of animals (including humans) and plants. His research aim is to further unravel the epidemiology and population dynamics of human fungal pathogens, investigate antifungal resistance patterns and improve fungal diagnostics and antifungal treatment.
