Ir. Herman van der Kooij of the Universiteit Twente has been awarded funding within the Open Technology Programme of the Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (NWO) for his E-Walk project.
The E-Walk project focuses on the development of a wearable device that supports people while walking. The technology aims to improve mobility and contribute to rehabilitation by combining insights from biomechanics, robotics and human motor control.
The Open Technology Programme supports application-oriented technical research carried out in collaboration with industry and societal partners. The funding enables the E-Walk team to further develop and validate the technology and explore real-world applications in healthcare.
Van der Kooij is professor of Biomechatronics and Rehabilitation Technology at the University of Twente and chair of the MT of the Robotics Centre of the UT. His research centres on understanding human movement and designing robotic systems that interact safely and effectively with the human body.
