Many ship locks in the Netherlands, which were built in the previous century, are nearing the end of their lifespans and will need to be renovated over the next few decades. This poses a major challenge to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management’s executive agency Rijkswaterstaat, which is responsible for this task.
