Radboud University at Lowlands: reaction speed after a cup of coffee

- EN - NL

Do you sleep like a baby after a double espresso? Or do you lie awake for hours? How your body reacts to caffeine depends on your DNA. Radboud University and Radboudumc are teaming up at Lowlands Science this year to find out whether you are a real caffeine crusher.

Some people lie awake after three sips of coffee, while another has no problem drinking a double espresso before bedtime. How is that possible? Small differences in your DNA influence how quickly you break down caffeine. In our pop-up lab, you can discover whether you break down caffeine like a hare or a tortoise. We combine your DNA profile with all kinds of tests, including your skills in an old Dutch game called "stokken vangen" (stick catching), to establish links with your caffeine intake, responsiveness, alcohol breakdown and more. This gives you a unique insight into the role of your genes in your Lowlands experience!
