The Minister of Education, Culture and Science has appointed prof.dr.ir. Arthur Mol as a member of the Supervisory Board of TU Delft for a period of four years.
Arthur Mol is Professor of Environmental Policy at Wageningen University & Research (WUR). He studied environmental sciences in Wageningen and obtained his PhD in social environmental sciences at the University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on environmental policy, globalisation, social theory and the environment, ecological modernisation, sustainable food production and consumption, and urban environmental management. Between 2000 and 2015 he led the environmental policy group at WUR. Mol has also been a professor of environmental policy in China, Japan and Malaysia. He is also editor of the book series New Horizons in Environmental Politics and a member of several journal editorial boards; previously he was editor-in-chief of the journal Environmental Politics. From 2015 to 2024 he was Rector Magnificus at WUR, after which he became a full-time professor again. He holds various advisory positions at European universities.
As an academic, Professor Mol seeks to connect with society, in the Netherlands and abroad. He has experience in TU Delft focus areas, including knowledge security and quality of teaching and research. In addition, his focus as Rector Magnificus was on internal processes, including (re)connecting people. This makes him a suitable supervisor and sparring partner for the Executive
Board, while he can also contribute to the engagement between the Supervisory Board and the university community.
On the Supervisory Board, he succeeds Prof. Luc Soete, who will complete his second term of office on 1 May 2025.
The other members of the Supervisory Board are
- H.L. Wachters
- M.J.J. van Beek
- P. Verhagen
A successor is being sought for Tijo Collot d’Escury, who stepped down as chair of the Supervisory Board on 1 March 2025. Luc Soete is currently acting chair of the Supervisory Board.
The Supervisory Board is appointed by the Minister of Education, Culture and Science. The Board has a number of specific tasks as set out by law, including the appointment of Executive Board members, the approval of the Executive and Management Regulations, the strategic plan, decisions regarding the employee participation system, the budget and the annual report.
