Job description

The Project Development Office (PDO) is the department’s central hub for all activities related to acquisition of research funding and proposal/project development. We support our researchers in finding interesting funding opportunities, developing their research ideas and developing competitive project proposals. Throughout the project lifecycle, we work closely together with our colleagues from Finance, Legal, HR, Data Management and Ethics, as well as project development officers, program managers and researchers from other departments as part of TU/e’s Institutes the Research Support Network.

As Advisor Research Funding, you’re the expert on acquiring research funding and developing new projects. You know the rules and regulations imposed by the various funding organizations (e.g. NWO and the European Commission), you have built up a network of relevant academic and business contacts and you know what the researchers in the department are looking for. Your expertise enables you to match interesting opportunities with innovative ideas. Together with the researchers you explore new research ideas, and support them in clearly articulating problems, approach, solutions and impact in project proposals or business-to-business collaborations. You take away the researcher’s worries concerning the administrative parts of project development and project startup and keep an eye on projects during their execution.

What are we expecting from you?

  • You have a good understanding of the current and future developments in both the National and European funding landscape and are able to match opportunities to the expertise and research interests of researchers in the department;
  • You proactively support researchers in the acquisition of research projects. You build and extend your network of internal and external stakeholders, you support developing of and participating in project initiatives, you help build consortia, you support proposal writing and can apply persuasive writing to maximize proposal chances and you keep an eye on overall proposal quality;
  • You support the administrative side of project development, including navigating the grant rules, setting up budgets (together with Finance), handling the submission processes and support contract negotiations (together with TU/e’s legal team) when grants get awarded;
  • You contribute to a central administration of project applications, management information, project case files and are a central person for project related questions.

Job requirements

  • You have proven expertise and experience in support on acquiring research funding and developing new projects and know the rules and regulations imposed by the various funding organizations;
  • You have experience in helping to establish quality research and innovation projects with a strength in structuring and substantiating research ideas in high quality project proposals and collaborations;
  • You are a team player in cooperation with researchers, support staff as well as other departments, universities and companies;
  • You have excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English and preferably also in Dutch;
  • You are goal-oriented, proactive, organized, hands-on, reliable and considered a recognized sparring partner. You are flexible and can work under deadline pressure;
  • You know how science works (at least MSc. in preferably a technical discipline), understand what drives researchers and you speak their language.


Conditions of employment

We offer an exciting position in the Project Development Office of the Department Mathematics and Computer Science. The salary depends on your experience and is in accordance with the CAO Dutch Universities. You receive a one-year contract and after a mutual positive evaluation of the first year a permanent contract may be offered.

We offer a fulltime (1.0 fte) employment position with a gross monthly salary in the range of ¤ 4.332 and ¤ 6.737 (scale 11 or 12) depending on your education and experience. An appointment of 0.8 fte (32 hpw) is also an option. Hybrid on-campus/working from home is possible. Besides that, we offer an annual holiday allowance of 8%, an annual end of the year allowance of 8,3%, a total of 41 days of holiday leave and a broad package of fringe benefits (including an excellent technical infrastructure, commuting allowance, pension scheme ABP, child care and excellent sports facilities).
