TU Delft’s Supervisory Board has reappointed Professor Tim van der Hagen as Rector Magnificus/President of the Executive Board of TU Delft. The reappointment comes into effect on 1 May 2024 and runs until 7 October 2026.

The Supervisory Board is pleased that Tim van der Hagen wishes to continue to serve as Rector Magnificus/President of the Executive Board. "In recent years, TU Delft has strategically pursued further cooperation in the region. In addition, the establishment of a new knowledge ecosystem, TU Delft Campus Rotterdam, has recently been decided. Of course, working towards a diverse, socially responsible and sustainable organisation continues to be a priority. The TU Delft Campus is the foundation of TU Delft and its further development will require our close attention in the coming years. We see administrative continuity as an important factor in advancing all these goals," says Supervisory Board chair Tijo Collot d’Escury.

Unanimous support

The Board of Professors, the Deans of the Faculties, the Staff Council and the Students’ Council all supported the reappointment. "We are delighted that everyone involved in this extensive process has given their unanimous support," says Collot d’Escury. Van der Hagen shares this feeling: "I consider it a great honour to continue working at our wonderful university. I thank everyone for the trust they have placed in me and for the great sense of team spirit I have experienced. I look forward to continuing to work on our mission in the coming years, together with our partners and everyone in our TU Delft community."

Social impact

Van der Hagen sees social impact as the university’s most important mission. He is one of the driving forces behind the convergence and the regional cooperation with Erasmus University Rotterdam, Leiden University, Erasmus MC and LUMC. He has also led the development of the TU Delft Campus into an innovation ecosystem, where businesses, public authorities and knowledge institutions work hand in hand to ensure that new technologies benefit society. In order to make an even greater contribution to solving societal problems and the transitions they involve, it was recently decided to increase the number of students and graduates. This is only possible if TU Delft expands in several locations.

After obtaining his doctoral degree from TU Delft, Tim van der Hagen worked at the Reactor Institute Delft. In 1999 he was appointed professor of Reactor Physics and, from 2005 to 2012, he was Director of the Reactor Institute Delft. From 2010 to 2016 he was Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. In 2016 he was appointed President of the Executive Board. Since 2018 he has held the combined position of Rector Magnificus and President of the Executive Board.
