Patrick Groenen reappointed as dean Erasmus School of Economics

The Executive Board (CvB) of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) has reappointed Prof. Patrick Groenen as Dean of Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). Groenen’s second term starts May 1, 2024 and runs till April 30, 2028. The reappointment followed a hearing of the School Council.

The Executive Board is pleased that Patrick Groenen is willing to serve another term as dean and looks forward to continuing their pleasant and constructive collaboration. 

Prof. Annelien Bredenoord, Rector Magnificus: "In his role as Dean of Faculty, Patrick Groenen has further developed and improved the strategy of Erasmus School of Economics these last years. In addition to excellent research and teaching, we are increasingly engaged in making positive societal impact. With Patrick’s accessible, people-oriented approach, we are moving forward together towards the new strategic period of Erasmus University Rotterdam."

Prof. Groenen has been a professor of statistics at Erasmus School of Economics since 2002. He was Director of the Econometric Institute from 2014 to 2020 and Director of Doctoral Education at the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) from 2009 to 2014. Groenen’s work focuses on data science techniques and their numerical algorithms. He has co-authored several books on multidimensional scaling and published articles in leading international scientific journals.

Groenen is very pleased with his reappointment: "I am very happy to serve Erasmus School of Economics and Erasmus University Rotterdam for a second term as the dean. Over the past few years, we have made a good start in implementing the School’s strategy, and I am glad to have the opportunity to continue on this path. Ahead of us are important projects, including implementing our Recognition and Rewards project, supporting high-quality research, and future-proofing our education.
